DEATH TAKES OLD RESIDENT

Mrs. Brabander Was a Member of Early Clayton County Colony

LEAVES SIX CHILDREN

Was Active in Church and Community Circles

Mrs. Louisa Brabander, wife of Gerhard Brabander, a resident cf Iowa all her life, died at her home, 108 Fourth Avenue NW., Sunday at the age of 66 years. Her death was due to a complication of diseases. For the past year she had been rapidly failing in strength.

Mrs. Brabander was born at Commonla, Clayton county, Iowa, September 23, 1861, and was reared in one of the early communal settlements of eastern Iowa. Here she received her early education and training, attending school and assisting in the home. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Brust, who were among the founders of the colony. She was united in marriage to Gerhard Brabander April 18, 1881 and they embarked in farming in Clayton county following they marriage. Seeking new opportunities and more advantageous conditions, they migrated from eastern Iowa to western portion of the state. Coming to Le Mars in 1888 they rented land in Grant township and farmed successfully tor a period of twenty years and in 1908 came to
Le Mars which has been the family home since.

Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Brabander were the parents of seven children, six Of whom with the father are left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother. The children are Louis Brabander, Mrs. Herman Renken, of Le Mars, Mrs. Will Ludwig, of Chat worth, John, Henry and Tena, of Le Mars. There are nineteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. She also leaves two brothers and two sisters, who are: Henry Brust and John Brust, of Elkader, Iowa, Mrs. Katherine Herwig, of Cedar Falls, and Mrs. Frank Harms, of Flat Willow, Montana, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Tena Brust, who has made her home with the Brabander family for several
years and has been a devoted companion and friend to the deceased during her long illness.

Active in Church

Mrs. Brabander was a member of St. John's Lutheran church and its kindred societies since taking up her residence in Le Mars and was active in community and church affairs. No sacrifice was too great for her to make when neighbors and friends were cast down by sickness and bereavement. Her kindly acts on many occasions are recalled by many. She was a loving wife and mother and a model homemaker and was held in the highest esteem in the community where she lived for nearly forty years.

The funeral services will be held at St. John's Lutheran church at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, the pastor, Rev. Vollmar, officiating, and the interment made in the city cemetery.
