George R. Brown, a resident of western Plymouth county for the past 67 years, passed away at his home in this city on Wednesday evening, October 9, 1938, of anemia and heart trouble, aged 77 years, 5 months and 19 days. He had been in failing health for some time, but had been feeling considerably improved a few days before the final summons came. He was taken ill while eating a meal at the table and passed away several hours later.

George Robert Brown was born at Sabula, Iowa, May 2, 1861, where he lived until he was ten years old. Then he came to Plymouth county, Iowa, with his parents and settled near Adaville, where, at the age of twenty-four, he engaged in farming. He married Mary Adelaide Richardson, January 24, 1893. To this union three daughters and two sons were born. An infant daughter preceded him in death.

For the past forty-five years he had been a faithful and consistent member of the United Brethren Church at Adaville. A man of upright character and strict integrity, a devoted husband and father, a kind and sympathetic friend and neighbor, he was held in high esteem by all who knew him and will be sincerely missed in a wide circle of acquaintances. Mr. Brown retired from farming in 1924 and moved to Akron, residing here up to the time of his death.

He is survived by his widow, Mary Adelaide Brown; two daughters, Mrs. A. M. Johnson, of Akron, and Mrs. E. E. Brown, of Dumont, Iowa, and two sons, Reuel, of Akron, and Russell, of. Sioux City; four sisters, Mrs. Mercy Stevens, Mrs. Joe Tabor, Mrs. Ed. Smale, Miss Mary Brown, and three, brothers, Luther and Jacob Brown all of Los Angeles, Calif., and Enoch Brown, of Quebec, Canada.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. F. Moore, of Akron, assisted by Rev. Talbot, of Adaville, at 1:45 o'clock at the home and at 2:30 o' clock in the Adaville U. B, church. Interment was in the Adaville cemetery.
