Jean O. Kleihauer, 83, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Jean Olive Benters was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Whiteside County, Illinois, the daughter of Henry C. and J. Olive (Bennett) Benters. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors' Lutheran Church, Hopkins Township, Galt, Ill. The family moved to rural Rock Falls, Ill., in 1935. She later graduated from Rock Falls High School in 1940.

On Feb. 20, 1941, Jean and Henry H. Kleihauer of Le Mars, were united in marriage at Jean's parents home in Rock Falls. They moved to rural Le Mars on March 4, 1946, and farmed there until 1978. They remained on the farm until March of 1989 when Henry died. Jean moved to Le Mars and later became a resident of the Plymouth Manor Care Center on Feb. 26, 2004.

Jean was a member of Christ Lutheran Church (Grant Township), rural Le Mars, and a member of the Hope Circle for 15 years. She became a member of the Faith Circle in 1990 and was able to read the entire Bible three times. Jean enjoyed playing cards and all types of music. She loved to garden and even assisted with flower planting at Plymouth Manor. She also enjoyed returning to Illinois to visit with family and attend reunions.

Jean will be lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law, Matie Ruble of Le Mars, Emma Harms of Le Mars, and Lillian Moeller of Craig; two brothers-in-law, Ottie Kleihauer and his wife Jeannine of Brunsville, and Al Kleihauer and his wife, Milly of Cherokee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Henry; a special friend, Arthur S. Pahl; a brother Frederick; and brothers and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church (Grant Township) rural Le Mars. The Rev. Dan Gerrietts will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.
