Longtime Le Mars businessman Orville Livermore, dies at 74

Orville "Hank" Livermore, 74, longtime Le Mars businessman, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, following a lengthy illness.

Orville H. Livermore was born March 15, 1928, at Brunsville, the son of Fred and Mary (Kleihauer) Livermore. He was a Plymouth County native, life-long resident and a graduate of Le Mars Central High School. During his senior year of school he began working with Leo P. Nemmers Construction.

Orville H. Livermore married Marjorie C. Nemmers on June 14, 1950, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. Hank continued to work with his father-in-law's construction company, until Oct. 1, 1974, when he purchased the business. At that time the company changed names to O.H. Livermore Construction, Inc. Hank was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, (Trinity Council 1466), and the. Elks (B.P.O.E.), where he was a Past Exalted Ruler. He had also served with the National Guard from Aug. 26, 1947, to Jan. 20, 1961, with Troop C, 113th. Calvary. He had attained the rank of Captain on Jan. Hank was very active in the community and had served 18 years on the Le Mars City Council, from Nov. 20, 1973, until Dec. 31, 1991, and had also served on the Gehlen School Board. He had coached the first organized Little League Baseball team and they made it to the Regional Tournament. He also had coached the Le Mars Merchants fast pitch softball team.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Livermore of Le Mars; five sons and their wives: Mike and Vicki Livermore, Jim and Mary Livermore, John and Kim Livermore, Bob and Carol Livermore and Dick and Michelle Livermore, all of Le Mars; five daughters and their husbands: Kathy and Terry Marienau, Pat and Larry Beitelspacher, Mary Kay and Greg Jelken, Betty and Kevin Loutsch, and Nancy and John Holtgrewe, all of Le Mars; 26 grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; his mother, Mary Wiebersch of Le Mars; a brother and his wife, Ron and Marlene Livermore of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister and her husband, Mary Lou and Don Kettler of Minnesota; a brother-in-law and his wife, Marvin and Marcella Nemmers of Le Mars; three sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Mayrose, Barb Baack, and Betty Shea and her husband, Steve; and numerous nieces and nephews. Hank will be especially missed by a close friend, the Rev. Dale George. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Livermore; Cletus Wiebersch; and his mother and father-in-law, Leo P. and Lucille Nemmers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Andrew Hoffmann officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Friends may call anytime after 2 p. m. today (Friday) at St. .Joseph's Catholic Church. A Scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p. m. and the Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p. m. on Friday at the church. The Feuerstein Funeral Home of Le Mars is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Mark Marienau, Jacob Livermore, Jason Jelken, Kevin Jelken, Joe Loutsch, and Nick Livermore.
