Henry Plueger Died Saturday Was Pioneer Grant Township Resident

Henry Plueger, 84, long time Grant township resident, died Saturday, January 15, after a brief illness.

Henry Plueger was born May 7, 1864, at Belleville, Illinois, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Plueger. Both parents died, leaving a family of small children whom friends and neighbors took and reared them to young manhood and womanhood. Henry Plueger grew up in the home of a Mr. and Mrs. Nieman. He was baptized August 28, 1864, at Belleville, Illinois, and confirmed April 10, 1881, at South Litchfield, Montgomery county, Illinois.

About 1884 Henry Plueger came to Plymouth county and worked on the farm for Mr. and Mrs. Feike Oltmanns. Later he worked for Mr. and Mrs. John A. Dircks. On November 23, 1888, he was united in marriage with Trinka Dircks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Dircks. The couple established their new home on a farm in Grant township, where they lived a few years, then moved to a Preston township farm where they spent several years and 24 years ago moved to the Grant township farm where they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

To this union were born, 10 children, a daughter, aged 4 months, Lena, and a son, Arthur, aged 2 years, preceding their father in death. The widow and eight children survive. They are Mrs. Claus Siebens (Mary) of Grant; John W. of Grant; Mrs. Herbert Molzen (Anna) of Johnson; Will A. of Preston; Mrs. Walter Molzen (Emma) of Johnson; Fred G. of Johnson: Henry C. and Richard of Grant. There are 20 grandchildren and II great-grandchildren. Three brothers, Wm. F. C. Plueger of Los Angeles, California: Charles of Craig, and Fred Plueger of Monticello, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Henry Pecks, (Louise) of Howard, South Dakota, also survive.

Two brothers Theodore and Louie, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 19, from the Plueger residence at 1:30 p. m. with Rev. F. O. Bunge officiating. Services will be at the Mauer Funeral Home at 2 p. m. and burial will be in the Grant township Lutheran cemetery.

Mr. Plueger was held in high esteem by his friends throughout the county. He was a staunch member of the Lutheran church and the last surviving charter member of Christ Lutheran church in Grant township which he helped build and of which he was a member all his married life. He had enjoyed good health until recently, going to the hospital for treatment less than a month ago.
