Robert Leinen, 73, of Le Mars passed away Thursday, October 21, 2010 at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars after a courageous struggle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars with Reverend Kevin Richter officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations will be after 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 25, 2010 at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home with a 4:00 p.m. Rosary Service followed by a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Prayer Service.
Pallbearers will be Terry Moritz, Chris Krogman, Mark Gotto, Jason Gotto, Sherry Mai, Tara Riemenschneider, Cindy Decker, and Julie Batenhorst.

Robert Peter Leinen was born March 26, 1937 at Wagner, South Dakota to Ray and Clara (Conzemius) Leinen. To many of Bob’s friends, he was simply known as “Grumpy”. As a young child the family moved to Armour, South Dakota and then to a farm near Remsen and Kingsley, Iowa. He attended country school near his home in Henry Township. Later the family moved to Sibley, Iowa. Bob was united in marriage to Lois Tjepkes on September 28, 1957. To this union a daughter was born, Renee. The couple later divorced and Bob was married to Rita Hanson in 1966. To this union, 2 children were born, Jeff and Stacie. On July 18, 2007, Bob was reunited with the first love of his life, Lois.

Bob had worked as a route driver for the Sibley Creamery for several years. He also had worked at a lumber yard in Sioux City and for Affliated Foods in Norfolk, Nebraska. In 1977, Bob established Grumpy’s restaurant and bar in Kingsley. After selling Grumpy’s in 1987, Bob moved to Le Mars and drove truck for Schuster’s until retirement in 2003.

Bob enjoyed restoring cars from the 1940’s and 50’s. He loved to visit and spend time with his family and friends across the country. He will be greatly missed by many.

Survivors include the love of his life, Lois of Le Mars; 3 children, a daughter, Renee Galantine and her husband Richard of Lodi, California and their family Jeremy (Becky), Joseph, Anthony, and Raymond, a son, Jeff Leinen and his wife Julia and their family Jacob, Alex, and Madchen, a daughter, Stacie Mahrt and her husband Travis of Kingsley and their family Kellsi, Levi, and Jayden; 2 great granddaughters, Taylor and Alyssa; 2 stepchildren, Shawn Keleher and his wife Cindy of Youngsville, LA and their family Mariyah and C’Ana and Tara Gaines and her husband Anthony of Stockton, California and their family Chris, Curtis, Quinton, Jason, and Jaxson; 3 sisters, Joan Moritz, Norma Sparks, and Marlene Krogman all of Le Mars; a brother, Noel Leinen and his wife Jeanne of Norfolk, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.

He was proceded in death by his parents, Ray and Clara (Conzemius) Leinen; a brother, Michael Leinen; and 2 brothers-in-law, George Moritz and Bill Sparks.
