The former Rosemary Elizabeth Hermes was born June 9, 1924 in Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Antone and Katherine (Woekes) Hermes. The Hermes family lived on a farm near Remsen and Rosie attended country school. When she started school she had to be taught to speak English because the only language she could speak was Luxemburg. Rosie’s father died when she was very young and then they moved into Remsen, where Rosie graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School. Rosemary Hermes married Harold “Bud” Overman in 1948. The couple lived in Le Mars following their marriage. While the children were young Rosie was employed by Gehlen Catholic Schools in the cafeteria. Following Bud’s death she was employed with Ben Franklin in Le Mars until she retired so she could be home to care for her mother.

Rosie was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the church guild, and the Christian Mothers Society.

She was an avid walker, loved quilting, enjoyed laughing, and playing MaJong with her wonderful friends.
