Viola “Vi” Lilly, 98, of Akron, Iowa passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the Akron Care Center in Akron.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, Iowa. Pastor Steve Jewett from New Horizons United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Viola Pearl McDougall was born February 11, 1912 in Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Lyda (Lawrence) McDougall. She received her education in Westfield, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to H.B. “Bard” Lilly on January 4, 1930 in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple farmed near Westfield, Iowa for many years. In 1975, they retired and moved to Akron. Bard passed away May 14, 1994 in Akron. In 2003, Vi moved to the 8-plex in Akron and earlier this year, she became a resident of the Akron Care Center.
Vi was a member of New Horizons United Church of Christ in Akron and was active in the church circle. She also enjoyed playing in the Akron Care Center Bell Choir for many years. Vi enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens and being outdoors. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include a daughter: Avonelle “Ava” Sargent of Akron, IA; 3 granddaughters: Linda Murkins (Keith) of Sioux City, IA, Bobbi Dupree of West Des Moines, IA, and Danna Barnes of St. Paul, MN; 6 great grandchildren: Brad Murkins (Jeni), Kristi Mullins (Chad), Matthew Sargent, Karli Mohammed (Ishmael), Lucas Barnes, and Peter Barnes; 8 great great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Donald McDougall (Marge) of Tucson, AZ, and Robert “Jim” McDougall (Betty) of Sergeant Bluff, IA; many nieces and nephews; and her grand dog, “Lilly”.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bard; a son in law: Robert Sargent; and 3 sisters: Gilberta Olson, Dorothy Lease, and Martha Burke.
