Carol Harris, 73, of Akron, Iowa passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 5, 2010 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron, Iowa. Pastor Dawn Quame will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010, with the family present after 5:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at the church. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Carol Jean Boe was born February 11, 1937 in Irene, South Dakota, the daughter of Holger “Pete” and Pearl (Iverson) Boe. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. At an early age, she moved with her family to Akron, Iowa. She began her schooling in Akron until moving to International Falls, MN. In the 8th grade, she and her family moved back to Akron. She graduated from Akron High School in 1955. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
On September 15, 1956, she was united in marriage to Stuart “Skip” Harris at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. After a short time in Louisiana while Skip was in the service, they returned to Akron and began farming north of Akron. Carol was a homemaker for her family and later in life a caregiver for many of her grandchildren. Carol’s passion for music started at a young age and continued through her teaching of piano lessons to many area children for the past 30 years.
Carol was longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, having served as choir director and church organist for over 40 years. She volunteered for many years with the Sunday school and Bible school programs, and was active in L.C.W. She and Skip were active in the YoMaCo’s for over 50 years. Carol was a member of P.E.O. for many years. Carol volunteered and participated in many productions at the Akron Opera House. She and Skip were loyal supporters of the Akron-Westfield Sporting and Fine Arts programs and events. Through the years, Carol enjoyed quilting, needlework, and gardening. Carol will be remembered for her faith in God, her joy of music, and her love of family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband of over 54 years, Skip of Akron; her children: Julie Seipp (Chuck) of Arlington, VA, Jon Harris (Lisa) of Akron, IA, Amy Schnell Linder (Kevin) of Akron, IA, and Jill Schroeder (Tom) of Akron, IA; 16 grandchildren; a great granddaughter: Emma Jean Harris; her brothers: Dennis Boe of Mesa, AZ, Larry Boe (Deanna) of Akron, IA, Gary Boe (Nancy) of Omaha, NE; her sister: Kristine Simmons (Dale) of Norfolk, NE; her uncle: Vernon Hansen of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death her parents; her aunt: Opal Hansen; and her sister in law: Joan Boe.
Casket bearers will be her grandchildren: Nathan Harris, Michael Harris, Jonathan Seipp, Jeremy Seipp, Christopher Seipp, Joel Schroeder, Kyle Schroeder, Rachel Harris, Crista Seipp, Caroline Seipp, Taylor Schnell, Ryleigh Schnell, Nicholas Schnell, Katie Linder, Sarah Schroeder, and Cameron Schroeder.
