Esther Mullinnex, 73, of Akron, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Monday, March 22, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron, Iowa. Reverend Jean Morse will officiate. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010, with the family present after 6:00 p.m., and Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa.

Esther Martha Buchmann was born March 20, 1937 on a farm in Hutchison County, South Dakota, the daughter of Ruben and Elfreda (Werning) Buchmann. At the age of seven, she moved with her family to Hawarden, Iowa and later Chatsworth, Iowa before settling in Akron. She attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1957.

In 1959, she moved to Sioux City, Iowa where she attended the National Business Training School and Western Iowa Tech Community College. She was united in marriage to Marvin Mullinnex on June 30, 1968 in Sioux City, Iowa. Through the years, Esther worked for Goodwill Industries, Green Gables Restaurant, and the Sioux City Country Club. Marvin passed away January 14, 1977. She continued to live in Sioux City until 2007, when she moved to Akron.

She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City where she was active in Martha Circle for many years. Most recently, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. She was also a longtime member of the Eagles Club in Sioux City, where she enjoyed dancing. Esther volunteered for many people through the years in Sioux City, she also helped take of many shut ins. Esther loved to go bowling, work crossword puzzles, and do knitting and embroidery. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include a sister, Lydia Anderson and her husband Pete of Hawarden, IA; a brother, Harold Buchmann of Vermillion, SD; 3 nephews: James Anderson (Kristi) of Hawarden, IA, John Anderson (Connie) of Hawarden, IA, and Brian Buchmann (Joan) of Fremont, NE; 4 nieces: Joan Smith (Chuck) of Hawarden, IA, Kathy Heuer (Wayne) of Ireton, IA, Melissa Thienes (Niles) of Seattle, WA, and Carey Bok (Dwight “Red”) of Platte, SD; and several great nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; a brother: Albert; and a sister: Ruth Wood.
