Judy Friske, 61, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

A Service of Prayer and Remembrance will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa. Reverend Dawn Quame of Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron will officiate. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Thursday with the family present after 6:00 p.m. all at the funeral home. Burial will follow at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Akron.

Judy Kay Friske was born August 7, 1947 in Mechanicsburg, IL, the adopted child of Chester and Zelma (Getz) Lidster. She was raised in Shelbyville, IL where she attended school. She graduated from Shelbyville High School. Later, she moved to Dakota City, Nebraska.

She was united in marriage to Jack Friske on May 18, 1979 in Elk Point, South Dakota and she moved with Jack to Akron, Iowa. She was a homemaker for her and Jack.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. She enjoyed bowling, fishing and camping, and listening to country music. She loved animals and doing word searches and crafts. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 30 years, Jack of Akron, IA; 5 children: Sean Kelly of Sherman, TX, Don Kelly and his wife Robin of Oklahoma City, OK, Roy Kelly, Ray Kelly, and Amber Kelly all of Sherman, TX; 6 grandchildren; 2 sisters: Helen Gibson and her husband Harold of Effingham, IL, and Shirley Hite of Waseca, MN; a brother: Jerry Bowen of Palm Springs, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother in law: Paul and Lois Friske; and a sister: Ruby York.
