Rose Allen Carter, 95, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of the Akron, Iowa area, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2009 at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2008 at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa. Reverend Dawn Quame of Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. will officiate. Abiding by her wishes, cremation has take place. Inurnment will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home and following the service.

Rose Allen Carter was born March 8, 1913 in Alcester, South Dakota, the daughter of George and Maude (Peck) Allen. She attended school in Alcester.

She was united in marriage to Frank Carter on September 24, 1958 in Dakota City, Nebraska. They lived on farms near Sioux City, Iowa and later near Akron. Rose worked for many years a Sioux City Battery Company. She also had worked for the Packing house, as a maid for motels, and helped Frank and other area farmers. After Frank retired, they moved to the Ridgewood Apartments in Akron. Frank passed away in 1994. Rose continued living in Akron until becoming a resident of the Hallmark Care Center in Sioux City.

Rose was a great gardener and her favorite plants were violets. She also loved to cook and bake. Her family and friends loved her cinnamon rolls. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her son, Richard Allen and his wife Sharon of Sioux City; a grandson: Troy Allen of Miami, FL; a great grandson: Brandon Allen; 2 sisters: Leone Dixon of Moville, IA and Marie Maneoke of Chicago, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 3 brothers: Ray, Clifford, and Oren; and 3 sisters: Helen, Opal, and Dorothy.
