Monday, February 12, 2007Joy Fletcher, 83, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, formerly of Akron, Iowa passed away Monday, February 12, 2007 at her residence in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2007 at Akron Church of Christ in Akron, Iowa. Pastor Tom Steele and Beryl Hicks will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitations will be after 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2007 with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., all at the Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa.
Joy Elizabeth Fletcher was born July 3, 1923 in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Mark and Lottie (Beach) Coleman. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. She attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1941. She was united in marriage to Darcy Fletcher on July 22, 1942 in Dakota City, Nebraska. Shortly after their marriage while Darcy was serving his country during WWII, Joy worked for Paul’s I.G.A. Grocery store in Sioux City. After his return, the couple farmed in Union County, South Dakota for many years. After retiring, they moved into Akron. In 2002, they moved to Sergeant Bluff, Iowa to be closer to their family.
She was a lifelong member of the Akron Church of Christ in Akron where she was a member of the Ladies aide. She enjoyed crafting ceramics and shopping. But most all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband of over 64 years, Darcy of Sergeant Bluff, IA; a son: Dennis Fletcher and his wife Sue of Sergeant Bluff, IA; 3 grandchildren: Missy Kolar and her husband Gene and their daughter, Abby of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Cam Fletcher of McKinney, TX, and Ashley McLarty and her husband Ed of Sergeant Bluff, IA; a sister: Jerrine Nordgren and her husband Red of Sioux City, IA; a brother-in-law: Elmo Fletcher and his wife Naomi of Akron, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials can be made in Joy’s name to Hospice of Siouxland.
