Thelma L. Fletcher, 95, of Elk Point, South Dakota, formerly of Akron, Iowa, passed away Friday morning, February 15, 2008 at Prairie Estates Rehab and Care Center in Elk Point, South Dakota.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Akron. Pastor Mike Avery will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitations will be after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2008, with the family present after 6:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at First Baptist Church in Akron. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements.
Honorary Pallbearers: Elmo Fletcher, Darcy Fletcher, Richard Ballinger, Reynold Ballinger, and Norma Johnson.

Thelma Leona Fletcher was born September 2, 1912 on the family farm in Union County, South Dakota, the daughter of Dalton and Emma (Cooper) Ballinger. She attended country school in Union County, South Dakota and high school in Elk Point and graduated from Elk Point High School. She was united in marriage to Floyd W. Fletcher on September 30, 1933 in Elk Point, South Dakota. They farmed in Union County, South Dakota for many years. Following their retirement, they moved to Akron, Iowa. Floyd passed away April 5, 1983 in Sioux City. For the past several years, Thelma has been a resident of Prairie Estates in Elk Point.

She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Akron, Iowa. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She loved her cat, “Grettle”. But most of all, she loved the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue Croy of Elk Point, South Dakota; 7 grandchildren: Pat Fletcher and his wife Louisa of Caty, Texas, Lisa Burnham and her husband Larry of Correctionville, Iowa, Danny Flecther and his wife Dawn of Emlenton, Pennsylvania, Lori Bakker and her husband Brady of Moville, IA, Michelle Croy of Boston, Massachusetts, Barbara Croy of Elk Point, South Dakota, and Michael Croy of Elk Point, South Dakota; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and other family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd; a son: Charles Flecther; a daughter in infancy: Barbara Fletcher; and a brother: Harold Ballinger.
