Passed away December 14, 2006

Estell R. Henry, 80, of Akron passed away Dec. 14, 2006, in Fullerton, Calif., from complications resulting from pneumonia.

Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. Monsignor Richard Zenk will celebrate. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the mass at the church. The Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of local arrangements.

Estell was born Feb. 27, 1926, to Emery Henry and Mabel Fay (Clary) Henry, in Kingsley, Iowa. He graduated from Kingsley High School in 1945. He then attended Iowa State Teachers College.

In 1950, he married Kathryn LaVonne Clarey. He managed grocery stores in Iowa and Minnesota for the Council Oak Groceries chain. The family moved to Covina, Calif., in 1970, where he worked for L.B. Ball for many years. Upon retiring in 1990, he and LaVonne moved to Akron. The couple spent the winter months in California where all of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all reside.

He is survived by his wife, LaVonne; daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Michael Chavez of Buena Park, Calif., Jan and Paul Anderson of Anaheim, Calif., and Lois and Richard Beckman of Riverside, Calif.; a son and his wife, Wayne and Robin Henry of Menifee, Calif.; grandchildren, Wayne Jr., Laurie and Madison Henry, Sarah, Megan and Christopher Anderson, Kathryn Beckman Day and her husband, Cory Day and David and Kenneth Beckman; and great-grandchildren, Raymond Jacob Henry and Elizabeth Mary Day.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Iva Fay; his parents; and all of his siblings, Dale, Maxine, Emmett and Darlene.
