Rose Meester, 98, of Akron, Iowa, formerly of George, Iowa passed away Friday, February 2, 2007 at the Akron Care Center.

Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, Iowa with Reverend Rick Johnson officiating. Graveside services will be 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the Evergreen Cemetery in George, Iowa. Visitations will be after 5:00 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2007, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., all at the Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at the church.

Rose Beth Veenker was born February 24, 1908 on the family farm near George, Iowa, the fifth of nine children to Ralph and Fannie (Casjens) Veenker. She attended George Public School and graduated in 1925 from George High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College at the Cherokee, Iowa campus that summer and received her teaching certificate. She taught country school at Grant Central School, rural Lyon County, Iowa, until her marriage in June of 1934 to Alfred H. Meester of George. They had four children. Rose stayed home to take care of the children until the untimely death of Alfred in 1949. At that time, she took over the family restaurant and managed Meester’s Café until her retirement in 1968. She moved to the Ridgewood Apartments in Akron in 1989.

Rose was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George for many years. She enjoyed quilting, reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards, and visiting with friends and family. She really enjoyed coffee time at Ridgewood.

Survivors include her son, Stanley Meester and his wife Lovelle of Punta Gorda, Florida; 2 daughters: Sharon Heitritter of Boyden, Iowa, and Barbara Johnson of Akron, Iowa; grandsons: Martin Meester and Jason Meester of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Steve Heitritter and his wife Laura of Boyden, Iowa, Keith Heitritter of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Joel Heitritter and his wife Connie of Hull, Iowa, Philip Johnson and his wife Meghan of Ypsilanti, Michigan; granddaughters: Vonda Skow and her husband Joe of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Laura Anton and her husband Mark of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Heather and her fiancé, Leon Costello of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Nicole Geopfert and her husband Travis of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother: C. Harold Veenker and his wife Betty of West Lafayette, Indiana; a sister: Irene Veenker of Auburn, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter: Patricia; 3 sisters; and 3 brothers.
