August "Auggie" Huebner, 97, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 30, 2007 at the Akron Care Center in Akron.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Reverend Jean Morse will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron, Iowa. Visitations will be after 1:00 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2007, with the family present after 3:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 4:00 p.m., all at the Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa. Visitation will resume 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Casket Bearers: Mike Huebner, Marvin Huebner, Kevin Huebner, Jim Larson, Kevin Jusek, and Mark Olson. Honorary Casket Bearers: Marvin Hitzemann, Melvin Hitzemann, Denny Port, Curt Lewison, Lloyd Miller, Ron Schroeder, Burton "Buck" Swift, and Elvern Buum.

August C. Huebner was born August 23, 1909 on the family farm in Union County, South Dakota, the son of Wilhelm and Delinda (Thom) Huebner. He was baptized and confirmed at Union Creek Lutheran Church. He attended Mount Hope country school in Union County. He helped his father on the family farm and later his brother, Albert on his farm near Westfield. He was united in marriage to Anna Vanderham on October 28, 1933 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Chatsworth, Iowa. The couple farmed east of Spink, South Dakota. He retired in 1964; they lived in various towns before settling in Akron in 1973. Auggie worked for the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron for 17 years and was a handyman for many people. In April of 2006, he and Anna became residents of the Akron Care Center.

He was a former member of Union Creek Lutheran Church and Brule Creek Lutheran Church. He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron where he ushered and rang the bell for many years. He and Anna enjoyed square dancing and doing the polka. He also enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens and enjoyed sharing is produce with everyone in the community. He was also a member of the Akron Senior Center. Auggie was known for in "treatment ideas" when it came to being ill. He enjoyed sharing his remedies with doctors and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of over 73 years, Anna of Akron; 3 sons: Melvin Huebner and his special friend, Pat Howard of Akron, Norman Huebner and his wife Norma of Sioux City, and Richard Huebner and his wife Frances of Akron; a daughter-in-law: Pat Huebner of Kennewick, WA; 7 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; 9 step-great-great-grandchildren; a brother: Walter Huebner of Hawarden; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Edwin; a twin daughter in infancy; a sister: Gertrude Papritz; 6 brother: Albert, John, Arthur, Ralph, William, and Rueben; a grandson: Richard Huebner, Jr.; and a granddaughter in infancy
