Gladys V. Huebner, 86, formerly of Madison, Died Saturday, Feb. 8, 1997, at the Akron Care Center, Akron, IA., after a long illness.

Gladys V. Bennett was born October 5, 1910. She graduated from Akron High School in 1928. She attended Madison Normal School in Madison, SD., and Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind. She married Willie Huebner on October 3, 1942, in Ponca, NB. They farmed for many years before their retirement, and later moved into Akron. She graduated Cum Laude from Westmar University in LeMars, IA., in 1964.

She taught on the Cheyene River Indian Reservation, and also taught at Mount Hope, at Pleasant Hill in rural Union County, at the Ireton School and Alcester Elementary School until her retirement in 1975. She also served as deputy county superintendent for Union County, and served on the Union County School board from 1958-1964.
She was a member of Union Creek Lutheran Church of rural Akron, serving as financial secretary for 35 years. She was the Sunday School superintendent, and adult Sunday School teacher for many years. She was active in the Union County Extension Club, and the home culture club.

In addition to her husband, survivors include one son, Winston of Carroll, IA.; one sister, Daisy Sayles of Hawarden, IA.; four step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, IA, with burial in Riverside Cemetery in Akron, IA.
