Monday, November 27, 2006Willie Huebner, 94, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Monday, November 27, 2006 at the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2006 at Union Creek Lutheran Church, rural Akron, South Dakota, with Reverend Carla Nelson officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church and after the service during a time of lunch and fellowship. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel of Akron, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Honorary Pall Bearers: Bruce Ericson, Jay Miller, Earl Oetken, Melvin Hitzeman, Bill Michael, and Louie Desmet.
Willie Louis F. Huebner was born July 6, 1912 on the family farm in Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Wilhelm and Delinda (Thom) Huebner. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. Early in his childhood, his family moved to a farm in Union County, South Dakota. He attended Mt. Hope country school in South Dakota. He helped his father on the farm. He was united in marriage to Gladys V. Bennett on October 3, 1942 in Ponca, Nebraska. The couple farmed near Akron for many years before retiring and moving into Akron. After retirement, Willie worked for T & S Nursery for 5 years. Gladys passed away February 8, 1997 in Akron, Iowa. Willie has been a resident of the Akron Care Center since 2004.
Willie was a longtime member of Union Creek Lutheran Church in Union County, South Dakota. During his farming years, he served on several committees and boards, including the Union County and South Dakota Weed Commissions for over 30 years. He also served on the Ag Improvement Association for over 56 years, Union County Pork Council, and was active with the SE Experiment Farm in Beresford, SD. He was also active in Vocational Ag schools. He was a longtime member of the Akron Lions Club. During his time at the care center, he enjoyed playing in the Akron bell choir. He and Gladys enjoyed traveling. Willie enjoyed taking pictures of his friends and family. He always had a camera with him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include: his son, Winston Huebner and his wife Maxine of Carroll, IA; 2 brothers: August Huebner and his wife Anna of Akron, IA, Walter Huebner of Hawarden, IA; a sister-in-law: Rose Huebner of Beresford, SD; 4 grandchildren: Cindee Bentley of Carroll, IA, Michael Bentley of Missoula, MT, Roxie Peterson and her husband Dennis of Des Moines, IA, and Curtis Bentley and his wife Martha of Readfield, ME; 6 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister: Gertrude Papritz; and 4 brothers: Albert Huebner, Arthur Huebner, John Huebner, and Rueben Huebner. On November 29, 2006, his brother Ralph joined him in heaven.
