Mrs. Willie Bengston, 85, Akron, died Sunday (July 31, 1983) in the Akron city hospital after a brief illness.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2 in the Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron. The Rev. Benard Nelson officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Otto Stene, vocalist, sang "What A Friend" and "The Old Rugged Cross", accompanied by Mrs. Ron Erkes, pianist.

Pallbearers were Norman Hansen, Don Brosz, Eldon Seely, Gus Johnson, Robert Vreugdenhil, and Patrick Rudiger.

Mrs. Bengston, the former Emma Ball, was born Aug. 28,1897, in Hamlin County, near Estelline, S.D. She married Willie Bengston, Nov. 1, 1922 at Watertown, S.D. They made their home in the Akron area. Mr. Bengston died in 1973.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Max (Myra) Vreugdenhil of Akron; two sons, Orval of Lakewood, Colo., and Eugene of Rochester, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Linda Werth of Watertown; one brother, Ed of Estelline; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
