Florence Jacobs, 88, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 27, 2006 at Bee Hive Assisted Living in Hawarden, Iowa.

Services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron with Reverend Dawn Quame officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church. There will be a time of lunch and fellowship in the church basement following the services. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements.

Florence Jacobs was born October 5, 1918 in Union County, South Dakota, the daughter of Peter and Leora (Hatcher) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church in South Dakota. She attended Pleasant Ridge country school in South Dakota and later Akron High School, where she graduated in 1936. She was united in marriage to Lyle Jacobs on October 5, 1938 at her parent’s home. She and her husband were longtime residents of Akron. Lyle passed away May 22, 2003.

Florence was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron where she had served on church council and taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the W.E.L.C.A. She was a longtime member of the Vesper Chapter of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary in Akron and the Akron Lion’s Club. She was also a member of the Akron Country Club. She enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, and crafts. She also enjoyed needlework of all kinds, especially sewing, knitting, crocheting, tatting, and needlepoint. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her two children: Terry Jacobs and his wife Susan of Minneapolis, MN, and Julie Jacobs of Seattle, WA; two grandsons: Jon Jacobs and Tom Jacobs and his wife Kelly; 3 great-grandchildren: Sloan, Flynn, and Isabella; a sister: Donabell Moe and her husband Gordon of California; a brother: Merlow Anderson and his wife Connie of Reno, NV; and a sister-in-law: Helen Anderson of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother: Tillman Anderson; and a nephew: Bruce Anderson.
