Darrell E. Boetger, 68, of Akron, Iowa died unexpectedly Friday. Nov. 14, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services were held Monday, Nov. 17 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. William Flemr officiating. Burial with rites conducted by Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron, was in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron was in charge of arrangements

Pallbearers were Jim Warren, Wayne Sheveland, Denny Port, Wayne Buum, Bob Popken and Forrest James. Mr. Boetger was born July 2, 1929, in Akron, the son of Ernest and Mary (Beeler) Boetger.

He attended school in Akron. He married Donna Heyl on Oct. 20, 1948, in Sioux City. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, during The Korean War. He was an employee at Thorson Drug in Akron for 20 years and was manager of the American Legion Club for 12 years. He enjoyed fishing, playing pinochle, and was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.
He served on the Akron Fire Department for many years, including one year as fire chief. He was a member of the American Legion Post 186, Elk Point Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Doug and Deb. of Lawton, Iowa; two grandchildren, Ryan and Caitlin Boetger; a sister, Elaine McCormick of Downey, Calif.; a brother and his wife, Charlie and Olive of Akron; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Orville, Clifford and Raymond.
