Louis Meyer

Louis Meyer, 93, of Berkeley, Calif., formerly of Le Mars, died Sunday (March 28, 1982), in a hospital at Oakland, Calif., after a two-month illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic church in Le Mars. Rev. Francis H. Staber will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery in Le Mars.

The rosary will be recited by the Knights of Columbus at 8 p.m. in the Fisch funeral home in Remsen.

Mr. Meyer was born June 13, 1888, at Alton. He was raised and educated in the Alton, Granville and Remsen areas. He was a retail salesman for the W.T. Rawleigh Co. in Plymouth county from 1912 until 1938.

He served as a constable of America township and the city of Le Mars from 1934 until 1938.

In 1941 he moved to Sioux City and was a salesman for the Jewell Tea Co. and also worked for the Yellow Cab Co. until 1942 when he moved to California.

He was employed at the Kaiser Shipyards at Richmond, Calif., as a plant protection policeman until 1946.

In 1947 he worked for the state of California at the Training center for the Blind at Oakland and also for the California School for the Deaf at Berkeley, retiring in May of 1955.

He married Anna Schiltz Jan. 12, 1915, at Remsen. She died March 19, 1916. He married Mary Millette Sept. 18, 1917, at Jefferson, S.D. She died Jan. 30, 1937. He married Hilda Kjose Dec. 10, 1942, at Elk Point, S.D. She died Nov. 8, 1966.

Mr. Meyer was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic church and the Knights of Columbus, both of Berkeley.

Survivors are one son, Cyril of Pittsburg, Calif.; three daughters Mrs. Louis (Bernice) Zimmer of Jefferson, Iowa; Mrs. Mark (Dolores) DeForce of Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Andy (Lucille) Richey of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; three stepsons, Arnold, Kenneth and Clarence Kjose, all of California; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Berl (Theodora) Fowler of Madisonville, Ky.; one sister, Mrs. Albert (Dora) Schuetz of Remsen; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; seven brothers and four sisters.
