Rita Wanderscheid, 87, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Rita Rosalla Pick was born July 15, 1923, in Remsen, the daughter of Anthony and Regina (Roling) Pick. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. She attended St. Mary's School in Remsen.

Rita was united in marriage to Harold Wanderscheid Nov. 26, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. Early on in their marriage, Rita was a homemaker for her family. Later on, she worked for Aalfs Manufacturing in Le Mars and as a nurses' aide for Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars until retiring in 1989. Harold died Oct. 22, 2001, in Le Mars.

Rita continued to live at home until moving to Floyd Valley Apartments and later to current home at Prime Assisted Living.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, where she was a member of the Altar Society. She and Harold enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle. They were active in many different cards clubs through the years. Rita enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and baking.

But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her children: Margie Hodgson (Gerald) of Le Mars, Rick Wanderscheid (Connie) of Sioux City, Barbara Schneider (Tony) of Osakis, Minn., Janice Beauregard (Michael) of Coral Springs, Fla., and Debbie Nelson (Marlin) of Sioux City; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister: Edna Haupert (Cyril) of Alton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; a son in infancy; a sister: Addie George; and 4 brothers: Alfred Pick, Milo Pick, Jim Pick, and Darold Pick.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Matt Hewitt will celebrate. Visitation with the family present will be after 5:30 p.m. Sunday, with a parish rosary at 6 p.m., and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., all at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 1:30 p.m. until service time Monday at the church. The Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Casketbearers will be her grandsons: Adam Wanderscheid, Scott Hodgson, Kevin Hodgson, Billy Hodgson, Robbie Meylor. Honorary casketbearers will be the rest of her grandchildren: Angela Comer, Emilee Neumann, Sara Schneider, Jeffrey Beauregard, Jackie Beauregard, Jon Beauregard, Jesse Beauregard, Sgt. Justin Nelson, Megan Keokenchanh, and Ashley Rogers.
