Norbert "Nubs" Gotto, 82, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Norbert Matheau Gotto was born June 6, 1928 in Remsen, the son of Bernard and Anna (Schleis) Gotto. Nubs was raised in the Remsen area and attended school and graduated from Union Consolidated, rural Plymouth County.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Kinzey Nov. 22, 1949, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley. Nubs worked various jobs before going to work for the Iowa Department of Transportation. In 1990, he retired after over 38 years of service.

Following his retirement, Nubs enjoyed hauling metal, playing cards, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.

Nubs was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He was an active supporter and spent the last three years organizing fundraisers for the Le Mars Area Dialysis Services.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of more than 60 years, Virginia of Le Mars; five children, Mike Gotto of Azusa, Calif., Rick (Betty) Gotto of Eldora, Rhonda (Ron) Kayser of Le Mars, Kevin (Myra) Gotto of Windom, Minn., and Laurie (Jeff) Kayser of Le Mars; 11 grandchildren: Amy (Brandon) Lafrenz of Wellsburg, Kim (Tom) Kimbrow of West Des Moines, Matt Gotto of Des Moines, Andrea Gotto of West Des Moines, Jessica (Keith) Moeller of Ankeny, Nick (Jenny) Kayser of Le Mars, Kayla Kayser of Ames, Lukas Gotto, Levi Gotto, and Jacob Gotto, all of Windom, Minn., and Tyler Prouty of Le Mars; four stepgrandchildren: Marie Bornholtz of Kansas City, Kan., Jarrod (Tiffany) Kayser of Ames, Luke Kayser of Le Mars, and Brett Kayser of Alcester, S.D.; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister: Maggie (Merlin) Ideker of Le Mars; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Gotto of Glendora, Calif., and Eileen Kinzey of Pallas Verdes, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Denny Gotto; four brothers, Johnny, Ben, Irvin, and Everett; and two sisters, Elizabeth Singer and Eunice Kounkel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Matt Hewitt will celebrate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be after 5:30 p.m. today (Monday), with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., all at Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church.

Casket bearers will be his grandsons. Honorary casket bearers will be his granddaughters.
