Alice B. Pratt, 91, of Kingsley, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.

Alice Bonita Pratt was born Sept. 5, 1919, in Defiance, the oldest child of Harry and Mabel (White) Chase. She lived near Defiance until the age of 5 when the family moved to Woodbury County, Iowa. Alice attended country school near her home and later at the Correctionville High School. Her mother passed away at a young age so Alice helped to raise her younger siblings and assisted with the farming.

On Nov.13, 1944, Alice and Edward Taylor were united in marriage at Merrill. The couple farmed until Edward died Sept. 23, 1963. Alice moved to Kingsley, and worked as a nurses' aid at Sunrise Manor and Westwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sioux City.

Alice married Merlin Pratt Jan. 24, 1973. He died July 23, 1976.

Alice remained in Kingsley where she was an active member at the Kingsley United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Alice also volunteered her time at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for many years.

In recent years, Alice lived at Prime Living Apartments in Le Mars and, for the last few months, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and her husband, Janice and Walter Skodmin of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son Steven Taylor of Des Moines, and a daughter and her husband Nancy and Mark DeRaad of Le Mars; grandchildren, Chad, Corey, Jacki, David, Anne, Rhonda and Chuck; great-grandchildren, Jade, Hope, Brandon, Tyler, Tony, Marti, Jay, Bree, Nick, and Heather; a sister Hazel Bollin of Le Mars; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pearl and Bill Linden of Moville; and a brother-in-law Mark Sands of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Edward Taylor and Merlin Pratt; a son, Roger Taylor; an infant sister, Martha Chase; a sister and her husband, Ileta and Ivan Earnest; a sister, Vera Sands; a brother and his wife, Harry and Dee Chase; a brother Wesley Chase; and a brother-in-law Doug Bollin.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Kingsley United Methodist Church. The Rev. Roger Kurtenbach will officiate. Burial will follow at the Good Hope Cemetery in Correctionville. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Johnson - Earnest Funeral Home of Kingsley. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet friends. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.
