IRETON, Iowa -- Paul Allen Winterfeld, 54, of Centerville, S.D., formerly of Ireton, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2009, from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident, while on his way to veterinary assistant classes.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton, with the Rev. Marcel Kohlmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 5:30 to 7 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Ireton.

Paul is the son of Julius and Joann (VandeHoef) Winterfeld, born June 8, 1955, in Hawarden, Iowa. He was baptized by the Rev. Paul Friedrich and confirmed by the Rev. Arthur Anacker at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton. He graduated from West Sioux High School in 1973, and from Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon in 1975. He was married and raised three children on a farm near Ireton. Paul's passions included farming, trucking and raising Pugs and English Bulldogs.

He is survived by his fiancee, Jan Leffring; his children, Chad Winterfeld and Christina (Mark) Husaboe; a stepdaughter, Katie Raaen; his mother, Joann Winterfeld of Ireton; his sisters, Judy Woehler of Benkelman, Neb., Sharon (Fred) Peters of Littleton, Colo., Diane (Darold) Jamtgaard of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Lori (Ral) Longworth of Montevideo, M.N.; loving nephews and nieces; his grandchildren, Brian, Jamie Lee, Natasha and Dalton; and four stepgrandchildren.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Julius Winterfeld; his son, Benjamin Winterfeld; Deb (Abbas) Winterfeld; and his grandparents.
