F. Elizabeth (Betty) Welch, 87, of Akron, Iowa, died Sunday, October 4, 1998 at Marian Health Center unexpectedly.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 8,1998, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron with Msgr. Richard Zenk officiating.Interment will be in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Akron Iowa. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 7, 1998, from 2 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. A scripture prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary by the Catholic Daughters at 7:30 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron in Akron with Msgr. Richard Zenk officiating. Interment will be in the St. Joseph's Catholic, Cemetery in Akron. Pallbearers will be "Betty's Grandchildren”. Organist: Jeannie Frerichs with choir selections by St. Patrick's Choir.

Mrs. Welch was born on September 12,1911, in Maxbass, ND., the daughter of Frank and Eda (Piquette) Hamel. She married Raymond Welch on September 18, 1930 in Kenmare, N;D., he died on February 3, 1985. They farmed in the Westfield, Iowa area for many years until their retirement to Akron 1974.

Betty enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Akron, Hoschler American Legion Post #186 Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters, Akron Senior Citizens Center.

Betty is survived by three sons and their wives; Jim and Dorothy Welch of Akron, IA, Dennis and Sandy Welch of Shorewood, IL, Bob and Mary Welch of Excelsior Springs, MO; five daughters: Phyllis and her husband Bob Jordan of Sioux City, IA, Kathleen and her husband Herman Harbeck of Sun City, AZ, Joan Henke of Geneva, NE, Marge and her husband Dennis Devine of Geneva, NE, Colleen and her husband Richard Wade of Sioux City, IA; 31 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two sisters: Frances Ramsdale of Great Falls, MT and Grace and her husband Laurence Steinberger of Minot, N.D.; one brother: Louis Hamel of Fresno, GA; two sisters-in-law: Fern Busch of Madrid, IA and Phyllis Kamradt of Sioux City, IA; a close friend: Helene Muth of Akron, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Raymond, one sister: Gladys Grady, three brothers: George, Raymond, and Joseph Hamel; two son's-in-law: Marvin Brandts and Scott Schenkelberg.
