Mrs. Lawrence (Steve) Mattas, 58, Des Moines, formerly of Merrill, died Saturday (May 13,1972) at Rochester, Minn., after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Luken-Johnson funeral home with Rev. Harold Norheim of St. John American Lutheran church at Merrill officiating.

Burial will be in Hillside cemetery at Merrill under direction of the Luken-Johnson Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. Monday.

The former Hilda Jahn. she was born Sept. 27, 1913. at Hinton. a daughter of the late William and Emma (Behrens) Jahn. She married Lawrence Mattas Aug. 19. 1948. at Brunsville. They had resided at Des Moines the last 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Mattas was a member of the Legion auxiliary.

Survivors are her husband; a son. William Mattas and his wife Palsy of Iowa City; five brothers. Art of Alia Vista. Paul of Sedalia. Mo.. Fred of Aurelia, Raymond of Sioux City and Elmer of Alcester, S.D.; three sisters, Mrs. Lillie King of Chicago, Ill.. Mrs. Sidney (Helen) Collmey of Kazar Falls, Maine, and Mrs. Maurice (Laura) Jensen of Sioux City, and a grandson. Jay Michael Mattas of Iowa City.
