Wednesday, May 15, 1957WILLIAM SMALTZ DIES AT ROCHESTER
William I. Smaltz, 59, well known LeMars resident, died Wednesday, May 8, at Rochester, Minn., after a brief illness. He had been at Rochester only two days.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mauer Funeral Chapel. Rev. James Ransom of the First Presbyterian Church officiated. Interment was in the city cemetery.
Mr. Smaltz was born July 19, 1897, at Onawa, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Smaltz. He came to LeMars as a small child and lived here since. Mr. Smaltz was employed as a clerk in the state liquor store here.
His marriage to Edna Cooper took place Oct. 1, 1923, at LeMars. She survives as do a daughter, Mrs. L. C. (Jean) Hulbert of Manhattan, Kan.; twin sons, John of Dallas, Tex., and Jay of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Alfred and Arthur, both of LeMars.
