RS.S.HUEBNER IS CALLED BY DEATH MONDAY MORNING
Rites For Esteemed Akron Woman Are Held Thursday Afternoon
In the death of Mrs. Sophie Huebner at her home in Akron, Monday morning, April 21, 1941, the community lost one of its oldest and most beloved women. She had been ill of ailments incident to advanced age for a number of weeks. For several days it was. known that the end of her earthly pilgrimage was not far distant and the final summons came peacefully, but not until the fulfillment of an expressed wish to attain her ninetieth birthday anniversary, which was ex-
ceded by three days.Sophie Elizabeth Koch, daughter of Christian and Dorthy Koch, was born in Steinfelde, Germany, April 18, 1851. Here she grew to young womanhood and on October 6, 1877, was united in marriage with Carl William Huebner. To this union five children wore horn. Two daughters, Anna and Elizabeth, preceded her in death. Mr. and Mrs. Huebner came to America in 1883 and located on a farm near Akron. In 1902 the family moved to Le Mars, where Mr. Heubner died in 1917. Mrs. Huebner then moved back to Akron, in 1918, and has since resided here. A twin sister, Mrs. Johanna Kaelke, preceded her in death about five years ago.
In her childhood in Germany, Mrs. Huebner was baptized and trained in the Lutheran church. She united with the German Evangelical church in Le Mars in 1900. Upon her return to Akron her membership was transferred to the Methodist church, where she was received by the Rev. M. E. Spahr, June 8, 1919. To this church she has remained a faithful member, attending all its services as long as her strength would allow. When she was unable to go, services were frequently brought to her home. The last religious rite given her was the Holy Communion administered to her on her death-bed on Good Friday. She as a devout Christian, a loving wife and mother, and a kind and helpful neighbor.
Three sons, Wilhelm C., of Akron; Fred, of Holland, Minn., and Herman, of Cherokee, Iowa, remain to cherish her memory. There are also 24 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends who live to call her blessed, and to feel their loss at her departure.
Funeral services were held in the Akron Methodist church this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. H. Lease. Interment was beside her husband in the City cemetery at Le Mars.
