Mervin H. Oetken, 74, Akron, died Thursday (Jan. 26, 1984) at his home of an apparent heart attack.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran church in Akron. The Rev. Marvin Mueller officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery under the direction of the Schroeder Funeral home of Akron. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Henry Marienau, George Hitzemann, Eldon Molzen, August Huebner, Toby Oetken and Ward Zischke.
Mr. Oetken was born Nov. 9, 1909, at Akron. He married Freda Nickoley May 14, 1939 at Ute, Iowa. They farmed in the Akron area for 44 years, retiring in 1976. They moved into Akron Dec. 22, 1983.
Mr. Oetken was a member of the Farm Bureau for many years and belonged to the Experimental Aircraft Association.
Survivors include his wife Freda; a daughter, Mervetta Zischke of Cedar Falls; two sons, Richard of Akron and Alan of Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Celia Wachtmann of .Madera, Calif., and eight grandchildren.
