John Raveling, 87, lifetime Plymouth County resident, died Wednesday (Jan. 5, 1977) at Brentwood Good Samaritan center, LeMars, after an extended illness. He lived at Brentwood since Dec. 1, 1972.
He was born Dec. 18, 1889, at Remsen to Tjebbe and Joann Renken Raveling. Mr. Raveling was a retired Remsen farmer and longtime LeMars resident.
He attended rural school in Plymouth County and was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Remsen.
After moving to LeMars, he did carpenter work and raised a large garden and many flowers.
He was a member of St. John’s American Lutheran Church, and Army veteran of World War I, member of Wasmer post, American Legion, World War I barracks 1507, Last Man’s Club and Senior Citizens.
Mr. Raveling served in the infantry in Germany and France during World War I.
His marriage to Ada Ludwig took place Sept. 23, 1924, at Lamberton, Minn. She preceded him in death Nov. 11, 1970.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s American Lutheran Church, Rev. Arnold Imbrock officiating. Burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Mauer funeral home.
Survivors are two sons, Gilbert, Clear Water, Fla., and Vernon, Chandler, Ariz.; and daughter, Mrs. Waldemar (Ardith) Lysolo, Burnsville, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Also surviving a brother, William Raveling, LeMars.
He was preceded in death by a son, Lyle.
