Clara V. Mattas, 71. of Merrill died Tuesday (July 21,1981) at Floyd Valley hospital after a brief illness.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Luken Johnson funeral home in Le Mars with Rev. Harold Norheim of St. John's American Lutheran church. Merrill, officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Friends and family may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Mrs. Mattas was born Feb. 14,1910, at West Le Mars. Her parents were James and Clara Belle Stephenson Gardner. April 6, 1940. she married Frank Mattas at Dakota City, Neb. Mrs. Mattas was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband. Frank, and numerous nieces and nephews.
