Marlys Jean Vrana, 57, of Westfield died Monday, Jan. 10, 1994 at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Mrs. Vrana was born May 16, 1936 in rural Akron to Guy M. and Laura Carmen Ross. She attended Westfield Community High School. She married Harold Vrana July 16, 1954 in Dakota City, Nebraska. They lived in Dennison for one year and then moved to Westfield. Marlys cooked at the Westfield Cafe, the Highway Cafe in Akron and then the Knotty Keg in Westfield until retiring due to ill health. She was a kind lady always willing to lend a helping hand.

Services will be held Thursday, January 13 at 1:30 p.m. in the Westfield Congregational Church in Westfteld, Iowa with Rev. Marty Healy officiating. Visitation will be Jan. 12, 2 to 8 p.m. in the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Musical selections will be "Amazing Grace" and "Just As I Am" with Tim Kelley as vocalist and Carol Harris, pianist. Burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron, Iowa under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Casketbearers are Jonathan Feller, Aaron Opland, Heath Knudsen, Buster Ross, Bernie Opland and Daryl Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Harold Vrana of Westfield, Ia.; two sons, Michael and his wife, Sally Vrana of Akron and Doug and his wife, Renee Vrana of Westfield; two granddaughters, Nicole and Darla Vrana of Westfield; one grandson, Jonathan Feller of Akron; her mother, Laura Ross of Westfield; a sister, Velma Knudsen of Akron; a brother, Guy Ross, Jr. and his wife, Marion of Westfield; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Guy M. Ross, Sr., a brother, Melvin (Bud) Ross and a brother-in-law, Hans Knudsen, and a sister-in law, Joanie Berry.
