John Meether, 57, Kearney, Neb., died Thursday, Dec. 21, 1989.

Funeral services were held Dec. 28 at First Lutheran church, Kearney, Neb.

Johm Meether was born in Plymouth County October 10, 1932 to Edwin and Elizabeth Meether. He graduated from Akron high school and attended the University of South Dakota, Verrnillion and St. John's Lutheran College, in Winfield, Kan. He then continued on with theological training at Concordia Seminary, in St. Louis, Mo. He graduated June 3, and was ordained into the ministry July 12, 1959, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, in Wauneta, Neb. He also served Trinity Lutheran Church in Palisade, Neb. He continued parish ministry at Ogallala, Neb., Blythe, Calif., and Long Beach. Calif.

John married Ruth A. Buesing June 4, 1967, in Yorktown, complimenting his skills in ministry with her gifts as a Lutheran teacher. Their children, Brenda and Steve, are both attending Kearney State College. He has three brothers, Arthur, living in Fergus Falls, Minn.. Marvin of Akron, and Duane, of Hawarden. Johnson was a resident of Kearney, Neb, since 1982, when he was installed as assistant pastor at Zion Lutheran church and Protestant chaplin at the Youth Development Center. He served as chaplin at Richard Young hospital since its opening in 1983.
