Alice L. Rieckmann, 96, of Kingsley, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Alice Lina Rieckman was born on October 27, 1913, in Wamego, Kan., the daughter of Oswald and Frieda (Wohlweber) Meissner. Her family moved to a farm near Correctionville in 1916 and later relocated to the family farm south of Pierson. Alice attended country school and graduated from Pierson High School in 1931.
In September 1935 Alice and Elmer Rieckmann were united in marriage. Together they farmed on the Rieckmann family farm until Elmer died in May 1982. Alice remained on the farm until she moved to the Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in April of this year.
Alice married Milford Beeghly in September 1992.
Alice was baptized in the Lutheran faith as an infant. She was later confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church at the age of 14. She was active in the life of Salem Lutheran where she taught Sunday School for 30 years and also taught Vacation Bible School. Throughout the years she held many offices with the Salem Lutheran Women and offices in the Conference of the American Lutheran Church Women's Organization.
Alice enjoyed studying the Bible.
Some of her hobbies included flower and vegetable gardening, sewing, embroidery, and crocheting. She also assisted with quilting at the church. Alice was a past member of the Kingsley Federated Garden Club.
Alice will be lovingly remembered by her sons Ronald of Des Moines and Wayne of Kingsley; three grandchildren Jennifer (Todd) Coleman, Karla (Vernon) Knaack, and Derek Rieckmann; a great-granddaughter Andrea Knaack, and one on the way; a step-great-granddaughter Hailey Coleman; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Elmer and Milford; a daughter-in-law Judy Rieckmann; an infant brother, George; a sister, Hattie McArther; brothers Warner, Willie, Eric and Fritz, and her brother and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Correctionville. Pastor Bert Burwell will officiate. Burial will follow at the Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the Johnson -- Earnest Funeral Home of Kingsley. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Tuesday.
