Virginia "Gini" Schuller, 62, of Le Mars, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at her home.

Virginia Rae Vant Hul was born Aug. 13, 1948, the daughter of William and Mildred Vant Hul in Orange City. "Gini" as she was known to family and friends attended and graduated from Floyd Valley High School in Alton, with the Class of 1966. Following graduation from high school, Gini enrolled in nursing school at St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Sioux City. She graduated with her nursing degree in 1969.

Gini was united in marriage to Rodney Schuller June 20, 1969, at the Alton Reformed Church. As Rod was pursuing his education as an optometrist, Gini worked as an OBGYN nurse at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago and later worked as a pediatric nurse at Mercy Hospital in Chicago. Gini worked as an industrial nurse for R. R. Donnelley Publishing Co. before the family returned to Iowa.

Gini and Rod settled in Le Mars where he continued practicing family eye care.

Gini then became co-owner of ABC Travel in Sioux City for several years then worked as the school nurse for Le Mars Middle School and High School until her early retirement in 2000 due to her health.

She was a longtime member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ where she had previously served as a deacon.

Gini was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan, enjoyed reading and playing in bridge groups and entertaining friends.

Most of all, she enjoyed her family and especially being able to be "Grandma" to her five grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Dr. Rod of Le Mars; two children: a son, Dr. Matthew Schuller and his wife, Dr. Kim of Freedom, Wis., and their children Alexander "AJ", Benjamin, and MacKenzie and a daughter, Heather Nemer and her husband, Adam of Plymouth, Minn., and their children Jack and Max; her mother, Mildred Vant Hul of Alton; two brothers, the Rev. Kent Vant Hul and his wife, Wendy of Cedar Grove, Wis., and Mark Vant Hul and his wife Kathy of Alton; two sisters, Lynne Dreesen and her husband, Don of Slayton, Minn., and Jan Plesher and her husband, Dan of Sioux City; and several adored nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Vant Hul; a sister, Mary Van Es; a brother, Wayne Vant Hul; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, John and Dorothy Schuller.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars with the Rev. Jan Christensen and the Rev. Kent Vant Hul officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today (Monday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 5 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service.
