Marian V. Utesch, 81, of Oyens, died Wednesday, Aug.18, 2010, at her home in Oyens.

Marian Virginia Steichen was born May 27, 1929 at Alton, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Henricy) Steichen. She moved to Remsen in 1941 with her family and attended St. Mary's grade and high school and graduated in 1947.

Marian was united in marriage to Harold "Doc" Utesch Oct. 27, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. They had lived in Oyens since 1961. Harold died Sept. 26, 2002.

She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and the Altar Guild. She volunteered and worked at the church for more than 20 years.

Her proudest achievement has been as the "stay-at-home mom" raising their children. She and Harold were blessed with four sons and three daughters.

Survivors include her seven children, Dave Utesch and his wife Fay of Ames, Mike Utesch of Omaha, Neb., Barb Henrich and her husband, Dennis of Le Mars, Kate Utesch of Barberton, Ohio, Jeff Utesch and his wife, Michelle of Fort Collins, Colo., Julie Ruba and her husband, Mark of Remsen, and Doug Utesch and his wife, Jill of Remsen; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; five sisters and one brother.

Marian was preceded in death her parents, Nicholas and Mary (Henricy) Steichen; her husband, Harold "Doc" Utesch; a grandson, Ryan Utesch; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Ruba; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens, with the Rev. Bill McCarthy officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Friday) at the Carlsen & Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m., with the family present to greet friends after 5 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. Scriptural wake service, all at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Saturday morning at the church from 9 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Tod Henrich, Jordan Utesch, Doug Ruba, Kelly Reitzler, Tyler Ruba, and Kim Cain. Honorary pallbearers Dusty Cain, Brittany Ruba, Sarah Bray, Jordyn Utesch, Christin Bray, Jake Utesch, Kara Ruba, Jessie Utesch, Mike Utesch, Noel Henrich, Melanie Utesch, Meri Durbin, David Durbin, and Spencer Reitzler.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
