Charles H. Obye, Sr., 97, Humbddt, Iowa, died Feb. 15, 1992, in the Humboldt Care Center of a heart ailment.
Mr. Obye was born in Lake City and lived in Iowa most of his lifetime. He lived in Arizona for some years after retiring, and returned to Iowa in June 1990.
Mr. Obye, a former Akron School superintendent, left here the fall of 1940 to go on active military duty in the district-office in Cedar Rapids. Later he was an officer with the ROTC at the University of Iowa followed by a few months at Foutainebleu Castle, in France, as a commanding officer of a replacement depot. He worked in the state department of public instruction from 1952 to 1965. His wife died in 1960. He later married again and she died in July of 1990.
He is survived by two sons, Charles "Chuck" Obye of Sun City, Ariz, and Spirit Lake, Iowa and Kenneth of Danville, Virginia. Both are graduates of the Akron High School.
