Francis "F.R." Blum, 84, of Merrill, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 1992, at his home after a long illness.
Services were Tuesday at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill. Rev. Richard Ball officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Luedtke Feuerstein funeral home in Le Mars.
Mr. Blum was born April 11, 1907, in Akron, Iowa, son of Bernard and Agnes (McGinnis) Blum. He was raised and attended public school in the Akron area, and began farming with his father. He married Frances Ludwigs, Jan. 27, 1931 at St. Mary's Catholic church in Remsen. They farmed near Akron for 10 years, then near Merrill for 10 years. They then moved into Merrill and owned and operated a Standard station. He worked for the Heidelbrau Brewing Co. and sold Successful Farming mag- azines. He retired in 1973. He was interested in the scrap iron industry as a hobby. Mrs. Blum died Jan. 17, 1989.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Audrey (Fagen) and Jerry Kennedy of Sioux City, and Jeanette (Wankum) and Dick Spies of Hinton; two sons, Maurice (Morrie) and his wife, Bonnie of Merrill, and Marvin of Austin, Minn.; 15 grand- children and 12 great grandchildren; four brothers, Gilbert of Remsen, Barnail of Watsonville, Calif., Basil of Lawton, and Edmund of Akron; a sister, Bernice LaCroix of California and a special friend of the family, Gerald "Jerry" Hodapp of Merrill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, and a great-grandson.
