Dorothy L. Raby Dewey, 67, Akron, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 4, 1998 at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center following a long illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 7, 1998 at Westfield Congregational United Church of Christ in Westfield, Ia. with Rev. Susan Miller, hospice chaplain officiating. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron, IA, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Nathan Leekley, Clint Faust, Brent Faust, Lenny Dewey, Leslie Dewey, and Bob Carson. Honorary pallbearers were grand- Children, Vanessa Dewey, Samantha Dewey, Schauna Carson, Austin Dewey, Greg Dewey, and Missy Dewey. Pianist was Arlene Morehead with Jean Hammersma as soloist.

Mrs. Dewey was born on April 7, 1931 in James, IA, the daughter of Chester and Lois (Solomon) Raby. She attended the Westfield Community School. She married Duane R. Dewey on Oct. 5, 1949 in Sioux City, IA. He died on October 27, 1968. She was A homemaker until her husband’s death. She then worked for the Zenith Corp., Otis Radio, and IBP. She enjoyed horticulture, western movies, country music, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Westfield Congregational United Church of Christ and was a lifelong Akron-Westfield resident.

She is survived by three sons: Jerry and his wife Marcia Dewey of Westfield, IA; Dennis Dewey of North Sioux City, SD; and Lesley Dewey of Akron, IA; four granddaughters: Schauna and her husband, Bob Carson of Sioux City, Vanessa and Samantha Dewey of Akron, IA and Missy Dewey of Westfield, IA; six grandsons: Nathan Leekley, Greg Dewey, Brent Faust, all of Westfield, IA, Clint and his wife Amber Faust of Le Mars, IA, Austin Dewey, Lenny Tucker Dewey, both of Akron, IA, and Leslie Tucker Dewey of Sioux City, IA; three great-granddaughters: Meagan and Mitia Carson, Elizabeth Faust, all of Sioux City, IA; one great-grandson, Colin Faust of Le Mars, IA; special friend: Mabel Solomon of Merrill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane, one daughter, Rita Kay Dewey Faust, and infant sister, Ruth Raby.
