Sylvester Emmanuel Schoenfelder, 75, of rural Westfield, la., died Saturday (Dec. 23, 1989) at his home of an apparent heart attack.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 27 in St. Patrick's Catholic church in Akron. Monsignor Gerald Lyon officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery at Akron. Rosary and scripture prayer service were held Dec. 26 in Schroeder funeral home in Akron. Pallbearers were his children, Winifred Touney, Mary C. Newman, Kenneth Schoenfelder, Jerome Schoenfelder, Edward Schoenfelder, and Ronald Schoenfelder.

Mr. Schoenfelder was born Dec. 28, 1913, in Dimock, S.D., son of Joseph and Bertha (Zeier) Schoenfelder Schoenfelder. He married Hylda Thelen Nov. 21, 1938, in Parkston, S.D. The couple farmed their entire married life in the Akron-Westfield area. He semi-retired in 1974.

Survivors include his wife, Hylda; two daughters, Mrs. Duane (Winifred) Touney of Fort Dodge and Mrs. Mary Christine Newman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four sons, Kenneth of Winsted, Minn., Jerome of Akron, Edward of Westfield and Ronald of Bradenton, Fla.; four sisters, Ann Greene of Sioux City, Bridget Kerwin of Chamberlain, S.D., Bernadine Nolz of Parkston, S.D., and Eva Wagner of Jefferson, S.D.; a brother, Joseph of Everett, Wash.; two half brothers, Mike Schoenfelder and John Pollard, both of Mount Vernon, S.D., and 26 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Engelbert and Robert; a sister, Bertha and two half brothers, Leo and Ray.
