Edward J. Vreugdenhil
Edward J. Vreugdenhil, 82, 1000 N. Rustin St., died Friday at a Sioux City hospital after he was stricken at home by an apparent; heart attack.
Services were Monday at Morningside Reformed church, with Dr. Louis Lotz officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Vreugdenhil was born April 25, 1910, at Hornick, Iowa. He attended schools in rural Union county, S.D. He married Marie Den Hartog, Dec. 25, 1933, in Orange City, Iowa. They owned and operated grocery stores in Lebanon and Carnes, Iowa, in the early 1930s, and started farming in the early 1940s. He farmed in Westfield from 1950-1962, then worked for Wells Fargo in Sioux City until his health forced him to retire in 1973. He was a member of Morningside Reformed church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Harvey G. and his wife Sharon of Fargo, N.D., and Edward R. of Sioux City; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Marguerite) Huls of Boscobel, Wis., and Mrs. Melvin (Georgia) Bonnewell of Sioux City; three sisters, Lillian Moats of Phoenix, Cora Terwilliger of Sacramento and Ruth De Witt of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Darwin Huls of Grundy Center, Iowa, Nancy Schouten of Ashland, Wis., Carolyn Detloff of Le Mars, Iowa, Brenda Bauer of Atlanta, Tim and Tony Bonnewell, both of Sioux City, and John Vreugdenhil of Fargo, and six great-grandchildren. .
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Pallbearers were Mike Nash, Don Nieuwendorp, Joe Belcher, Leon Koster, Marv Pansegrau and Al Brink.
