Peter Blum, Sr., passed away at his home east of town, early Tuesday morning, November 22, 1910, after several weeks illness, of heart trouble and general break down, aged 68 years , 4 months and 3 days.

Peter Blum was born July 19th 1842, at Budesheim, near Bingen on Rhine, Germany. In his early manhood he was employed as an expert tester in the famous wine cellars of that locality. He came to the United States in 1863 and located at Sublett, Illinois, where on March 1st, 1870, he married Elizabeth Knecht, and that was their home until they moved to Odebolt, Sac county, Iowa, in 1879. In the spring of 1888 they and their family moved to Plymouth County, locating on a farm four miles east of Akron, and they have lived in this immediate vicinity since, except one year that they farmed east of Le Mars. Mr. and Mrs. Blum retired from active farm life about twenty-five years ago.

Nine children came -to bless their union, one son, a twin to Edward, having died August 31, 1882 at the age of nine months. Those surviving are Peter J., Mrs. Herman Hitzemann, George, Jacob M., Francis (of Fremont, Nebr.), Bernard Edward, Mrs. Adam Waldschmidt (of Manning, Iowa), all of whom except the two indicated, live in Akron and vicinity. There are grandchildren , and he also has two sisters living in Germany.

Previously he had always enjoyed excellent health, with the exception of an attack of typhoid fever about thirty years ago. Possessing a certain brusqueness of exterior, Mr. Blum was within a whole-souled and good hearted man, who thought much of his family and was respected by his friends and neighbors. The community offers its sympathy to the devoted wife and family in their bereavement .

The funeral will be held Thanksgiving forenoon in St. Patrick 's Catholic church, and interment made in the church cemetery.
