Arthur B. Staum, 82, of Akron, Iowa, died Friday, July 24, 1992, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the South St. Paul Lutheran church, rural Elk Point, S.D. Rev. Gene Eidsness officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery, under direction of Schroeder funeral home in Akron. Visitation was Sunday at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Tim Staum, Todd Staum, Clifford Haines Jr., Dan Harkness, Tim O'Kane and Gary Groethe. Honorary pallbearers were Raymond Wennblom, Orvie Anderson, Stanley Lawrence, Arthur Erickson, Elmer Dimmick, Merle Fickbohm, William Bohlen and Arnold Helseth. Soloist Bernard Ofstehage sang "How Great Thou Art". Dorothy Maurstad was organist. The congregation sang "My Faith Looks Up To Thee."
Mr. Staum was born April 24, 1910, in rural Elk Point, son of Kasper and Anna (Ulvog) Staum. He married Mildred Haines Aug. 21, 1934, at Savannah, Mo. They farmed his family farm until moving to Akron in 1984. He was a member of the South St. Paul Lutheran church all his life. He was a former member of the Akron Lions club. He was the sexton and had been a longtime board member for the church's cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred; two brothers, Clarence and his wife, Yvonne Staum of Elk Point, and Vernon Staum of Atlanta; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Norma) Ofstehage of Vermillion; three grandchildren, Tim of St. Paul, Minn., Sandy O'Kane of Omaha, Neb., and Todd of Elk Point; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Staum of Elk Point; a nephew they raised, Clifford Haines and his wife, Esther of Elk Point. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gladys; anda son, Carroll.
