Lloyd R. McElhaney

Lloyd R. McElhaney, 76, an Akron native and former Omaha resident, died Friday, April 10, 1992, at the Hawarden Community hospital.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Schroeder funeral home in Akron. Rev. Don Greenough officiated. Gary Tucker, soloist, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Savior", , accompanied by Carol Harris, organist.

Burial was in Riverside Cemetery with military rites by Hoschler American Legion post 186. Pallbearers were Dwight Mc- Elhaney, Vernon Ludwigs, Wayne Gronemeyer, Cal Robertson, Dennis Hultgren, and Leverne Klemme.

Mr.- McElhaney was born Jan. 29, 1916, in Portland township, on a farm northeast of Akron, son of Frank and Jennie (Schuyler) McElhaney. He attended Stony Point country school. He attended automotive mechanic's school in Kansas City, Mo. He served three years in the army during World War II, mostly in the European Theater. He worked as a mechanic at Prather Motors in Sioux Falls, then Peterson Motor in Storm Lake. He then worked for Carl Anderson Co. in Omaha, where he was the company automotive troubleshooter. He retired in 1981. He moved to the Hass-Hillcrest nursing home in Hawarden in the fall of 1991. He was a ham radio operator,and served as the area-wide network leader. He was a member of the Ak-Sar-Ben Amateur Radio Cub of Omaha and of Omaha's Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include a sister, Carol Port and her husband, Kenneth of Akron; two brothers and their wives, Kenneth and Thelma McElhaney of Sioux Falls and Don and Mary McElhaney of Lakeville, Minn.; several nieces and nephews.
