Ray Hoffman, Sr., 88, of Westfield,
died Friday (Dec. 30,1988) at the Akron
City Convalescent Care Center following
a sudden illness.Services were held at 10:30 a.m.
Monday at the First Church of Christ in
Akron. The Rev. Elmer Hodge officiated.Burial was in Pleasant Valley
cemetery at Adaville. Visitation was
held Sunday at the Schroeder funeral
home in Akron.Active pallbearers were Ron Hoffman,
Steve Hoffman, Don Hoffman,
Jr., Rick Hoffman, Jim Hoffman, Larry
Searls, Johnny Van Wyk and Kenny
Van Wyk.Honorary pallbearers were Buzz
Leekley, Dwayne Waddell, Ron Feauto,
Orville Feauto, Harry Kroll, Charles
McMahon, Wayne Radtke and Carl
Hasenbank.A quartet of granddaughters, Donna
Mount, Diane Feldhacker, Doris Snow
and Darlene Cornish, sang "How Great
Thou Art." "The Old Rugged Cross"
was sang by Tim Kelley. Pianist was
Susan Trobaugh.Mr. Hoffman was born July 11,1900,
near Westfield, to Charles and Anna
(Heeren) Hoffman. He attended country
school near Westfield. He married
Nellie Marie Godfrey Dec. 29, 1923, in
Sioux City. She died Dec. 10, 1987.Hoffman, a farmer, lived his entire life
in the Westfield area.He was an avid hunter, fisherman,
and loved to play cards and visit.Survivors include three daughters,
Ida Searls of Westfield, Goldie Friske of
Akron, and Mrs. John (Betty) Van Wyk
of Hawarden; four sons, Ray Hoffman,
Jr., Kenny Hoffman and his wife,
Katherine and Lloyd Hoffman, all of
Westfield, and Donald Hoffman of
Akron; a brother, George Hoffman of
Sioux City; 22 grandchildren and 40
great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife,
Marie; three brothers, Elmer, Clarence
and John; a sister, Mae, a granddaughter,
Mary Lee Hoffman; and a grandson,
Ronald Searls.Akron Register Tribune
