Anita Lynn Rodgers, 38, of Meridian, Idaho, died Friday, July 2, 2010, after a courageous 2 1/2 year battle with cancer.

Anita was born Feb. 1, 1972, in Sioux City, the daughter of Pete and Mary Block. The oldest of eight children, Anita inspired and encouraged her sisters and brother. She attended school at St. Michael's Catholic Grade School and Bishop Heelan High School.

Anita left home to attend University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, where she earned her bachelor's degree in business administration. After college, she worked at the Sioux City Convention Center, where she met her husband, Mike Rodgers.

Mike and Anita were married June 9, 2001, in Las Vegas, Nev. In the spring of 2003, they moved to Idaho where they settled in Meridian.

Anita worked for Boise State University, and then she joined her husband selling real estate.

In November 2004 they welcomed their beautiful son Dylan to their family. Dylan was the light in Anita's life, and she and Mike enjoyed traveling and sharing the world with their son. They loved spending time on the Oregon Coast.

Anita loved her son, husband, family and friends.

She will be missed by all, including her husband Mike; her son Dylan; parents Pete and Mary Block, of Sioux City; siblings, Chris (Todd) VanDorn, Omaha, Neb., Sheila (Larry) Rohatsch, Omaha, Neb., Lisa (Matthew) Cave, Kansas City, Mo., Jennifer (Scott) Buttler, Las Vegas, Nev., Kim Block, Las Vegas, Nev., Ryan Block, Omaha, Neb., and Karla Block (Dan Chapman), Minneapolis, Minn.; her grandmother, Arlene Galles, Remsen; a niece, Ellie Cave; nephews, Ben, Greg and Alex Cave, Noah Chapman, and Cole VanDorn; her in-laws Mark and Debbie Grigg, Albian, Idaho, Krys Grigg, Albian, Idaho, Roman (Julie) Grigg, Justin Grigg, Roger (Pranom) Grigg, all of Boise, Idaho; aunts and uncles, Dale (Rose) Galles, Marcus, Marilyn (Terry) Bunkers, Audrey (Gilbert) Weiler, both of Remsen, Carol (Gary) Christoffel, Granville, Bonnie (Stan) Meyer, Ireton, Laurie (Alan) Schroeder, Granville, Karen(Randy) Portz, Remsen, Joe (JoAnn) Block, Le Mars, Marie (Harry) Hagert, Remsen, Bob (Sue) Block, Bloomington, Ill., Lucy (Bob) Price, Le Mars; and her father-in-law Mike Rodgers, Idaho.

Anita was preceded in death by her grandparents, Henry and Johanna Block and Milton Galles; an uncle, Don Galles of Remsen; cousins, John Hagert and Angel Bunkers of Remsen, Dustin Christoffel of Granville, and Travis James Weiler of Remsen.

Her bright light and positive spirit shone on all whose life she touched. We will miss her, but we will look forward to having her shine on us from heaven.

A funeral service was held at Ten Mile Christian Church, Meridian, Idaho, Tuesday, July 6, at 1 p.m. under the direction of Summers Funeral Home, Ustick Chapel in Meridian.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at St. Michael Church in Sioux City.
