Ardith L. "Ardie" Dunnam, 49, of Le Mars, died unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at her home in Le Mars.

The former Ardith Lynn McKown was born Dec. 6, 1955, at Denver, Colo., the daughter of George B. and Elaine F. (Arens) McKown. She grew up in Aurora, CO and following high school graduation, attended a business school, where she earned a diploma in cosmetology.

Ardie married Steven E. Dunnam on Feb. 13, 1993, at Indianapolis, Ind. The couple lived in the Indianapolis area, where she was employed by the Indiana Department of Corrections as a Corrections Officer. Her husband Steve died in July of 2004. Ardie moved back to Le Mars a year ago so she could be close to her family.

Survivors include a son, Robert Healy of St. Cloud, Minn.; a grandson, Drayven Skiple of Glencoe, Minn.; her mother, Elaine McKown of Le Mars; a brother, Harry McKown of Le Mars; two sisters, Barbara Macomber of Aurora, Colo., and Donna Harlan and her husband, Jim of Le Mars; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Dunnam; her father, George B. McKown; a brother, George D. McKown; maternal grandparents, Martin and Elizabeth Arens; and her paternal grandparents, Harley and Florence McKown.

A Memorial Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. today (Tuesday) at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation was after 6 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.
